When I bought the suit it was on one of their ‘buy one get one free’ promotions, and I had tried the other on, it fit great. Thinking they were both cut/tailored the same I just assumed the second would be the same – silly me as it turns out.
About two weeks ago I wore a suit that I had purchased from Jos. A. Bank on the east side of Evansville for the first time. The jacket was incredibly uncomfortable, and I could barely move my arms.
It's one place to buy a suit. Not the most expensive but not the cheapest.
I took the suit back to Jos. A. Bank and demonstrated the problem to them. The salesman, Aaron, agreed that it did not fit correctly and began to look into the situation. I thought it would be a simple matter of dropping the suit off and having it retailored (the suit says Jos. A. Bank right in it and I had the receipt for the tailoring, which was done by them, so I assumed there would be no issue).
Very helpful staff and organized. Sign up for emails and shop the deals.
After about half an hour (which had by now consumed most of my lunch break) Aaron was still on the phone, somewhat subversively, in the back of the store. I asked the other sales person what was going on, as I thought this would be quick and easy, and she told me she didn’t know. Finally Aaron came back to talk to me and told me the problem was that they – Jos. A. Bank – had sold me the wrong cut of suit and that it could not be tailored. I wasn’t sure what to say so I simply asked him what they planned to do about it, he told me they would do nothing, that it was simply my problem. I asked him why they sold me the wrong style of suit, and he said that the salesperson I had worked with must not have known what they were doing (somehow this is now my problem).
I live out of town and this is the closest Jos. A. Banks near me. I have to drive 50 minutes to get there. I ordered a suit a month ago and every time I go there to get the suit it's still not ready. They told me last week to come today and it was still not ready when I got there. I have driven there 3 times and still no suit.
Long story short I was extremely disappointed that a supposedly ‘high end’ clothier would simply tell you ‘we don’t know what we’re doing – it’s your responsibility to know’ (as if I know anything about suits, I can put them on and – given time – tie a decent knot in a tie). So if you’re thinking that paying the extra money to go to Jos. A. Bank will ensure a good fit and good service – think again.
